Understanding Emergency Protocol

A few weeks ago when my car died while I was driving, I didn't really know how to handle the situation. After things went south, I pulled over as quickly as I could to wait for the tow truck driver. Unfortunately, my car was basically sitting in the middle of a busy intersection, which made it really hard for my tow truck driver to do his job. After police closed off the intersection, I was finally able to have my car towed to a shop. On my website, you might learn how to follow basic emergency protocol so that you can stay safe and expedite repairs.

Know When To Repair Your Brakes: Three Indicators

Eevi Annala

When drivers hear a squealing noise when bringing their vehicle to a stop, they view this sound as indicating that they need new brake pads. However, this sound is but one indication. Several other signs a vehicle gives should prompt the need for this auto service. Learn more about some of these indicators so that you can have your car repaired promptly.

Vibrations

When you apply the brake pedal, a vibrating or pulsating sensation is not normal. Over time, the resin used on brake pads to keep them together will overheat, causing it to spread. When it spreads across the pads and rotor, it does not do so evenly. As such, you have spots with more resin than others.

When you apply the brakes, when it passes over the areas with more resin, it will cause resistance that displays as a vibration. Remember that the resin spreading process usually occurs with excessive wear, so by the time you experience this issue, the brake pads are well in need of replacement.

Delayed Slowing

Brakes play a critical role in the safe operation of a vehicle because they allow drivers to stop. So, when your brakes no longer let you stop at the same speed they did before, it is definitely time for a repair.

Worn brakes rarely go from complete to zero stopping power overnight; it is progressive. If you notice that it seems to take a few seconds longer than normal to stop your vehicle, you should use this as a repair indicator. The longer you ignore the issue, the worse it will become, and the greater the danger you will be in when in the vehicle.

Uneven Stop

Pay attention to how your vehicle responds when you apply the brake, especially if you press the brake suddenly. A car with even brake wear will remain straight when the driver applies the brake. However, the car might pull to one side or the other with uneven wear.

This issue occurs when the brake pads on one side of the car have less wear than the other. In this scenario, you may want to get all the pads replaced. An unequal amount of brake wear can lead to other problems with your vehicle, so it is best to have all pads even.

If you notice any of these signs, take your vehicle to an automotive repair center to have it diagnosed and properly repaired. For more information, contact a company like Precision Towing & Recovery.
